When you’ve been there before, you know what it’s like. When you’ve been there before, you know the heartache. When you’ve been there before, you wouldn’t wish it upon anyone else. Frank and Adrienne have been there and they are doing their best to help those who are there now. They were both injured while working only a few months apart. When income stops or slows down, things get tough. They ended up becoming homeless. Now that they are getting back on their feet, they are finding a way to give back.
The couple purchased a store and opened Segunda Thrift. All the items are brand new and donated. This allows them to have very low prices for everything. It is a wonderful store that has a lot to give, but they are still in need. They need more customers. If they don’t get more customers, then they will have to raise the prices. That is not something they want to do because they have been there. They have been in a place where they didn’t have more than a few dollars for anything. They truly care about their customers and community.
This reminds me of the greatest commandment. Mark 12:29-31 says, “‘The most important one,’ answered Jesus, ‘is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.'” Love God. Love your neighbor. Remember where you have been and think of those who are there now. What would you tell them? How would you respond to them? Think about it.
