When life doesn’t seem to be going your way, it can be easy to sit back and think that nothing will ever happen. When you stand up and fight, things happen. Yogi Ferrell is a 23 year-old professional basketball player. He graduated from Indiana University in May of 2016 after playing basketball all four years. Many college basketball players have hopes of being picked up in the NBA draft by one of the 30 teams. When that call never comes, it can be disappointing and devastating, but it’s what you do after the disappointment and devastation that counts.
Ferrell did not give up. He was signed by the Brooklyn Nets in July. He played in the NBA Summer League and then for the Nets’ NBA Developmental League team. He was released from the team on December 8th. Over a month later, there was a team in need of a point guard. The Dallas Mavericks were having difficulties with injuries. Both of their true point guards had went down because of injury and the team was suffering. The Mavs signed Ferrell to a 10 day contract to fill a hole. UPDATE: the hole has been filled.
On Friday, February 1, 2017, Ferrell scored 32 points and sparked a huge win for the Mavericks over the Portland Trailblazers. He went 9-11 from three-point range. It was quite a game to watch! Since then, he has been a consistent player on the court who has definitely helped the team. Remember it’s what you do after the disappointment and devastation that matters. Yesterday, Ferrell was signed to a two-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks. He persevered through the tough times and now he is where he dreamed of being. In 2 Chronicles 15:7 it says, “But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” God is always with you and with him nothing is impossible. You go, Yogi, you go!
